TwendeButiama is a Mwalimu Nyerere Bicycle Tour which mobilises cyclists for Long Distance and Endurance Bicycle Tours in Tanzania. It is a combination of Cycling Enthusiastic, non-profit, volunteer-directed Cyclists for bicycling.
Our Call for Action is to cycle-for-cause to commemorate Tanzanian’s Father of the Nation, Mwl. Julius Kambarage Nyerere as an African Hero. We cycle in honoring his contribution in bringing Unity, Solidarity, Peace and National Patriotism.
The Club started its bicycle Tours back in 2018 and it was formerly registered on June 3rd, 2021 under the National Sports Council vide Certificate No. NSC 12708.

Twende Butiama’s Mission is to promote cycling to people of all ages and abilities, providing a fun, healthful recreational experience and a sense of belongingness to the community.
we envision a vibrant community where cycling is embraced by individuals of all ages and abilities, fostering a healthier, more connected society through fun and inclusive recreational experiences.
Our call for action is to commemorate the Birthday of Tanzanian’s father of the nation, Mwl. Julius Kambarage Nyerere as an African Hero who was born on April 13th, 1922 and died on October 14th, 1999. WE CYCLE in honoring Nyerere’s contribution in bringing Unity, Solidarity and Peace in Tanzania.

WE CYCLE to promote Domestic Tourism encouraging citizens to visit historical sites, antiquities, museums, national parks and other tourist attraction areas.
WE CYCLE to promote Environmental Sustainability Practices by promoting Climate Smart Actions. We are promoting Tree Planting through “MITI KWA UMRI” Campaign whereby each Tanzanian, every year, should plant trees corresponding to their ages.
WE CYCLE to promote the development of Cycling Sport for health/recreational and as an income generating activity. The future of cycling depends on bringing new people into the sport, both adults and children. Providing a safe supportive environment for new cyclists is a critical part of the club’s mission. TwendeButiama will start to offer beginner rides each month starting next year 2023 season. The club will run several children’s cycling programs, as well as beginner triathlete training sessions.
TwendeButiama collaborates with partners and supporters to enable the administration and management of the Tour.
Twende Butiama ® is an annual cycling event which mobilizes cyclists around the country to cycle from Dar es Salaam to Butiama with the main objective to commemorate the Death Anniversary for the , Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere who died on October 14th, 1999
